Gypsy Vanners (also known as Gypsy Cobs, Irish Cobs, Coloured Cobs, Tinker Horses or Gypsy Horses depending on country and region), were originally developed by Romanichal people of Great Britain. Gypsy Vanners were bred to pull vardoes (caravans). Until about 1996 Gypsy Vanners have had no breed registry or stud book, they have only gained national attention in the recent years. Their body is described to be more of a small Shire, they hare sturdy horses with flat knees and a short back. Shires had the greatest influence on the breed along with some from Fells pony, Dales pony, Clydesdales, British Spotted pony and Highland pony. Gypsy Vanners were bred for a specific body type rather than color, currently any color, marking or pattern is acceptable.
